Our sales tax function is built for Castiron artisans based in the United States. We strongly encourage you to consult your local tax professional prior to making any pricing or financial decision, as this article should not be construed as tax or legal advice.
The product is currently built to collect one rate of sales tax, which you set.
First, select "Settings" from the left-hand side of your navigation panel.
Then, select "Payments" from the options provided.
On this page, navigate to "Settings" at the very top, next to the Payouts tab. This is where you can manage your tipping settings and also set your Tax Rate.
At the bottom of the Payments page, you'll see the section to set your tax rate. State and local tax rates vary based on your location, the types of product you're selling, and much more. Do your research to make sure that you're collecting the correct amount of sales tax, if it's required in your state. Select "Learn About Taxes" (next to Tax Rate) to learn more. At this time it is only possible to set one tax rate per shop.
The tax percentage that you set will be automatically collected when your customers check out. The sales tax that your customers pay will be lumped into your total payout, meaning it will not be set aside for you. You should keep track of the taxes you collect. If you meet the minimum income required, you will receive a 1099 tax form at the end of the year recording the amount of taxes you've collected and owe the government.
